Menu Prompts are also called IVRs (Interactive Voice Response). They usually say something like "Press 1 to be connected to our Sales Office; Press 2 for the Accounts Department..." and so on.

The IVR is a very handy inclusion in your company's telephone regime. It enables callers to reach their destination with a minimum of fuss. Most modern telephone systems even allow the caller to "dial ahead" if they know the extension number of the department or person to whom they wish to speak.

The Menu Prompt/IVR saves time at "both ends" of the line. Callers are able to quickly get through to the right desk or department and no one is required to answer the call or make the transfer. This anonymity also helps maintain a semblance of confidentiality that callers always appreciate.
